If you are staying in the North of Bali (Lovina, Tulamben) and plan to visit the Gili Islands than the fastest and cheapest way is by taking a fast boat from Amed to Gili Trawangan or any of the other two Gili islands. 

Because Amed is located in the North of Bali it is the closest port in Bali to the Gili Islands.

The crossing by fast boat takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the weather and tides, which makes this ferry route one of the fastest to the Gili Islands from Bali.
